Wogan Coffee

A third-generation Bristol roastery with a steady hand and a quiet nod to the bowler hat

Wogan Coffee is a family-run roastery based in Bristol, first established in 1970. Now in its third generation and still independent, it is led by Laura and James Wogan, with roasting rooted in the same city where their grandfather began more than fifty years ago. The focus has remained consistent - making good coffee accessible, while taking responsibility for how it is sourced, roasted and shared.

Their Coffee Range

Wogan’s range is broad, but built around how people actually drink coffee. It brings together single origins and well-balanced blends that work comfortably across espresso, filter and milk.

At the core are long-standing relationships with specific origins. Coffees such as Nicaragua Finca La Bastilla and Colombia Finca La Laguna Reserva are good examples - single origins with clear, dependable flavour profiles, roasted for balance, body and consistency rather than sharp edges or extremes. Alongside these sit coffees from Honduras, Costa Rica and Kenya, offering a mix of chocolate-led, nutty and brighter styles shaped by origin.

Accessibility is handled with the same care. Their Swiss Water decaf is roasted to taste like a proper coffee, holding onto sweetness and character rather than feeling like a compromise. There is also a full range of Nespresso-compatible pods, roasted and packed in-house to reflect the wider line-up.

More About Wogan Coffee

Wogan Coffee’s approach is shaped by continuity and long-term thinking. Still independently run by the same family, the business has evolved steadily rather than chasing reinvention, refining what works and building on it over time.

Sourcing plays a central role. The coffees are fully traceable, with long-standing relationships across Central and South America and Africa, including Fairtrade, Organic and Direct Trade partnerships. The aim is to support quality at origin through consistency and long-term collaboration, rather than short-term buying.

Roasting takes place in Bristol using a mix of restored vintage machines and modern equipment. It is a practical set-up, chosen for control and reliability, with a focus on producing consistent, well-balanced coffees that express their origin clearly.

Alongside this, there is a clear effort to reduce environmental impact. Wogan has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030, supported by solar-powered facilities and electric vehicles across its operations. It is a straightforward, ongoing approach, built into how the business runs day to day.
