Wogan have taken two coffees they know well - their Direct Trade Nicaraguan La Bastilla and their Colombian Sugar Cane Decaf - and split them evenly to land somewhere that works for anyone who wants to ease back on caffeine without keeping the pleasure of a proper cup.
The tasting notes tell you what to expect: muscovado sweetness, cocoa depth and a lift of orange zest. It's a warm, rounded combination that holds up well across brew methods, from a morning cafetiere to an afternoon espresso. The Nicaraguan half brings structure and a little brightness; the Colombian decaf - processed using ethyl acetate derived from sugar cane, which preserves more of the original character than many decaffeination methods - adds smoothness and a gentle complexity. Both components score in the mid-eighties on the SCA scale, grown at altitude between 1,250 and 1,750 metres.
Wogan also fund three children through La Bastilla's on-site technical college via the Teach a Man to Fish charity, so there's a bit more behind this coffee than the cup alone. A solid choice for afternoons, evenings, or anyone who's decided that four espressos before noon was perhaps one too many.
