Assembly Coffee

Brixton, South London
Assembly Coffee

An independent Brixton roastery built on craft, curiosity and quiet conviction

Assembly Coffee started in Brixton in 2015, built around a simple conviction: that a roastery should source what its customers actually need, not what looks good on a shelf. Now a B-Corp certified team of thirty, they work with producers, scientists and hospitality partners across the world - bringing carefully chosen coffees to independent cafes, restaurants and home brewers from London to Manila.

Their Coffee Range

The Assembly Espresso Blend is a good place to start - chocolate, caramel and a banoffee warmth that holds up beautifully under milk. The Assembly House Espresso goes a slightly different way, blending natural and washed coffees from Cajamarca smallholders for something sweeter and more viscous. If you're watching your caffeine, the Daterra Low Caffeine is a Brazilian blend of Aramosa and Laurina varieties - nutty, milk-chocolatey and easy to drink, with noticeably less kick. The Brazil Decaf keeps that same sweet, chocolatey character without any caffeine at all.

The single origins are where Assembly really stretches out. The Ethiopia Rumudamo Natural is juicy and floral, with a clean fruit-driven finish that feels bright without being demanding. The Colombia Mauricio Shattah Sidra is richer and more layered - fruit-forward and velvety, shaped by a precise wine yeast fermentation. Then there's the Colombia Cata x Zarza Wush Wush, a rare Ethiopian landrace variety processed naturally with multi-stage fermentation, bringing vivid floral aromatics and a fruit complexity that takes you somewhere unexpected.

Guatemala and Tanzania both get a look in too - the Santa Irene Geisha is bright, tea-like and floral, while the Edelweiss Estate Natural from Kilimanjaro is all vivid fruit and a coating, sweet mouthfeel.

More About Assembly Coffee

Assembly Coffee's origins lie in a series of conversations. In 2014, a small team working within south London's specialty scene spent six months talking to the UK's leading independent coffee shops and restaurants, asking what a roastery could realistically do better. The answer shaped everything: source only what customers need, stay responsive, accumulate real data from across the supply chain, and build something sustainable for the long term. Assembly launched in April 2015 as headline sponsors of the inaugural Coffee Masters at London Coffee Festival - a confident opening statement from a roastery with a clear sense of purpose.

Today, Assembly operates from Brixton as a B-Corp certified business with a team of thirty. Their coffee is served in independent cafes, premium restaurants and luxury hotels across London, the UK and Europe, and brewed at home by people in cities well beyond. On-site, Door - their Ferndale Road café - serves house coffees, filters and limited releases Monday to Saturday. Two beliefs run through everything they do: that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and that everything can always be better. Neither is a slogan so much as a working method - evident in the care they put into sourcing, roasting and the long-term producer relationships that underpin it all.

Coffee Properly Ordered

The Fifth is a curated marketplace. We work with independent UK roasters, choose the coffees we genuinely rate, and have them sent to you directly - fresh, as they should be. We bring structure to the choice without complicating it. Fewer, better options. Clearer information. Coffee you can order with confidence, and enjoy without overthinking.
