Fruit-bright, organic, award-winning all-day blend
Gara is Owens' all-day blend, and the one people tend to come back to. Built from Arabica beans grown by two cooperatives - AMPROCAL in Honduras and COOPAFSI in northern Peru - it's roasted to a medium-dark that brings out caramel, biscuit, and roasted nut, with a gentle fruit lift keeping things from feeling heavy. It's the kind of coffee that works from the first cup of the morning through to the afternoon without asking anything of you.
Both origins are organic and Fairtrade certified. The Honduras comes from high-altitude farms run by the women of AMPROCAL, where elevation and careful growing bring a natural chocolate sweetness. The Peruvian beans come from smallholder farmers in the cloud forests around San Ignacio, supported by a cooperative that invests in training, community development, and a micro-credit facility - the sort of stability that lets farmers focus on growing well.
That care at source is part of why Gara tastes as clean and consistent as it does. It's also picked up a fair few awards along the way - a 2 Star Great Taste Award in 2025 and the Soil Association's Best Organic Coffee in 2019 - recognition that tends to follow coffee that's been thought about properly.
About the Roaster
Owens has been roasting coffee in Ivybridge since 2010, and Lorraine - who came to the craft from a career in biotech - brings a scientist's instinct for precision to every batch. Every coffee they sell is organic, Fairtrade, and independently graded as specialty, a standard they've held from the start. They were the first dedicated organic coffee roaster in the South West, and nothing about that commitment has shifted since.
