Dark Chocolate, Cinder Toffee, Sweetness
Candle Light No.1 is Coaltown's house espresso blend - deep dark chocolate, a hint of cinder toffee, and the kind of consistency that makes it easy to reach for every morning. It pulls well as an espresso and holds its character with milk. Multiple Great Taste Awards suggest it's not just us who think so.

Reliable dark-chocolate espresso at home
Candle Light No.1 is Coaltown's house espresso blend, and if you're drawn to coffee that's rich and settled rather than bright and punchy, this is probably the one for you. Dark chocolate and cinder toffee run through every cup - deep, sweet flavours that hold their shape whether you're drinking it straight or pulling it through milk. It's the kind of blend that works morning after morning without asking much of you, which is exactly the point.
The coffee comes from Bossa Nova, a farm in Cerrado - a vast tropical savannah in central Brazil and one of the country's most consistently productive regions for quality coffee. Mundo Novo and Catuai varieties, grown at around 950 metres and processed naturally, bring the sweetness and body that give this blend its character. Coaltown rotates the origin seasonally, not to chase something new, but to keep the flavour profile where it should be - so the cup you get in January tastes like the cup you got in July.
It's picked up multiple Great Taste Awards along the way, which says something. Though the more honest measure is that it's the coffee people quietly keep coming back to.

About the Roaster
Scott James set up Coaltown in Ammanford, a South Wales town that ran on anthracite coal for generations, with a straightforward idea: that great coffee could give a post-industrial community something to rally around again. The team roasts daily in small batches, working a range that moves from easy-drinking espresso blends through to more expressive single origins.
