Anthracite No.2 is a naturally processed espresso blend built around fruit-forward flavours - strawberry, peach and honey, with a wine-like depth that most morning routines don't usually stretch to. Sourced from high-altitude farms in Uganda's Rwenzori Mountains and recognised with a 3-star Great Taste Award, it's the kind of coffee that makes you slow down and pay attention.

Fruit-forward espresso, surprisingly easy drinking
Anthracite No.2 is built around a fairly bold idea: take the vivid, fruit-forward character of a naturally processed coffee and let it lead, rather than rounding it off into something more restrained. The result is an espresso that opens with strawberry and peach, settles into dried fruits, and finishes with a thread of honey that lingers in a wine-like way - bright and juicy where you might expect something darker and more familiar.
The coffee comes from farms high on the slopes of Uganda's Rwenzori Mountains - the Mountains of the Moon, as they're known locally - where altitude above 2,500 metres, fertile volcanic soil and consistent glacial rainfall do a lot of the flavour work before the coffee even reaches a roaster. Getting the ripe cherries down from those remote plots is its own story: Agri Evolve runs a donkey network to collect from the highest farms, which gives you a sense of how far up the mountain this coffee actually comes from. The natural process takes it from there, drying the cherry around the bean and deepening the sweetness that ends up in your cup.
Coaltown's 3-star Great Taste Award from the Guild of Fine Food reflects what the cup delivers - something a little unexpected, and worth paying attention to.

About the Roaster
Scott James set up Coaltown in Ammanford, a South Wales town that ran on anthracite coal for generations, with a straightforward idea: that great coffee could give a post-industrial community something to rally around again. The team roasts daily in small batches, working a range that moves from easy-drinking espresso blends through to more expressive single origins.
