Chris and Monika's small batch roastery in the Surrey Hills
Surrey Hills Coffee was founded in 2014 by Chris and Monika, a Swedish couple who moved from London to the Surrey Hills in search of fresh air, good cycling and better coffee. What started as a passion project soon turned into a well-loved fixture of the local scene, with their small batch roastery nestled in the village of Abinger Hammer.
Their coffee range
They offer a full range of styles and roast profiles, from rich and chocolatey espresso blends through to light, fruit forward filters. Holmbury Hill is their house espresso — smooth, nutty and sweet, designed for everyday drinking. Box Hill builds on that with a touch more depth and an earthier chocolate profile. Pitch Hill is the boldest of the lot, a dark roast Brazilian blend with real southern Italian character. For those looking for a darker option with a longer finish, Blackheath brings together dark chocolate, cherries and hazelnut in a blend that works across espresso and filter.
Their decaf, Night Flight, uses the Swiss Water process to preserve sweetness and body without any harshness, while 50/50 blends that decaf with a Brazilian single origin to offer half the caffeine and all the comfort.
Filter lovers will find plenty to explore too. Cottage Blend is their lightest roast — a clean and gently fruity Colombian single origin that nods to the Swedish brewing traditions Chris and Monika grew up with. Uganda Bukonzo Dream is naturally processed and full of tropical fruit, strawberry and caramel, while Burundi Masenga Hill brings a more structured cup, with notes of cola, liquorice and bittersweet chocolate.
More about Surrey Hills Coffee
Chris and Monika roast everything by hand on a traditional drum roaster, taking inspiration from their Swedish roots and from the surrounding landscape. Their coffees are shaped by a love of balance, flavour and simplicity, with each one developed carefully in house to suit home brewers and café customers alike.
They’re deeply rooted in their local community, with strong ties to local events, businesses and the wider outdoor scene in the Surrey Hills. Sustainability runs through their work too – from sourcing green beans responsibly to keeping roast batches small and fresh. Their commitment to craft, connection and quality has earned them a loyal following across the region and beyond.
