Cacao, Orange Rind, Liquorice
A dark-roasted single-origin Brazilian built for espresso, The Brixton leads with cacao and dark chocolate, then lets orange rind and liquorice add a little intrigue. Fuller-bodied than it is fussy, it pulls well as a flat white and holds its own as a straight shot - a dependable morning coffee that doesn't need to announce itself.

Dark espresso with a lift
The Brixton is Volcano's take on a dark-roasted single-origin espresso - bold and full-bodied, but with enough brightness from its Brazilian origin to keep things interesting. Cacao and dark chocolate form the base, orange rind lifts the whole thing, and a thread of liquorice runs through the finish. It holds its own with milk, making it a natural fit for flat whites, and it's equally at home pulled as a straight espresso if that's your preference.
The coffee comes from the Mió farm in Brazil, and Volcano's relationship with it goes beyond the cup - the purchase supports an agroforestry project working to move Brazilian coffee farming away from mono-crop culture. Named after Volcano's Brixton home, there's a sense of place to this one that feels considered rather than incidental.
If you like your espresso with real depth and a little edge, this is worth settling into.

About the Roaster
Volcano Coffee Works began with Kurt Stewart, a New Zealand-born chef, wheeling a vintage Piaggio Ape cart along a West Dulwich pavement and serving espresso to whoever fancied one. That spirit - unpretentious, curious, quietly determined - has carried through to a London roastery, two south London cafés, and a team built around the idea that good coffee should do good in the world as well as taste good in the cup.
