Burning Cliff shifts with the seasons - Andrew adjusts the blend's components as new crops come in, so what you're getting is always fresh even if the character stays familiar. That character is warm and unhurried: chocolate and caramel at the centre, with berry, forest fruit jam and stone fruit woven through to give it a little movement. Smooth and velvety in the cup, it doesn't ask much of you - but it gives you something to enjoy all the same.
It holds up well however you brew it. Pull it as an espresso and the caramel softens further with milk; brew it long and the fruit notes have a bit more room to breathe. If you want something dependable on the shelf - a coffee you can reach for on a Tuesday morning or a slow weekend afternoon without having to think too hard - this is a good one to keep around.
About the Roaster
Fountain Rock is a Dorset-based roastery founded by Andrew Hall, whose background in science and technology led him to study sensory analysis, brewing and roasting with the Speciality Coffee Association before ever selling a single bag.
